Award-Winning Saint Arnold Summer Pils Returns

Craft beer fans get their first taste since it won a Silver Medal at 2008 Great American Beer Festival

HOUSTON, April 27, 2009 – There may be a drought across much of Texas, but craft beer fans will not have to go thirsty this summer. Saint Arnold Brewing, the oldest craft brewery in Texas, today announced the long-awaited reintroduction of Saint Arnold Summer Pils. Beginning May 1, 2009, Saint Arnold Summer Pils will be available on tap and in 12-ounce bottles sold in six-packs and cases as stock of Saint Arnold Spring Bock are exhausted. It will be available throughout Texas at grocery and liquor stores, bars and restaurants.

This is the first time Saint Arnold Summer Pils has been available since winning the Silver Medal in the Münchner-Style Helles category at the 2008 Great American Beer Festival (GABF). Saint Arnold Summer Pils is a delicately flavored Bohemian-style pilsner.

“We tweaked the recipe a few years ago and the end result was light and refreshing with a crisp, clean bitter – perfect for a hot spring or summer day,” said Brock Wagner, founder of Saint Arnold Brewing Company. “It has a deceptively light golden color, but the use of Durst pils malt adds a great nutty flavor that makes it both delicate and complex at the same time.”

Saint Arnold Summer Pils has an above average alcohol by volume content of 4.9 percent. It is best consumed at 36 degrees Fahrenheit. It has an original gravity of 1.050 (12.7° Plato) and a final gravity of 1.012. Recommended pairings include spicy Mexican food, pizza and lamb kebabs.

This will be a special summer for Saint Arnold Brewing, which is planning to celebrate its 15th anniversary in June. Construction is well underway on a new brewery building north of downtown Houston that is expected to be complete before the end of 2009.
